What is Compass? | Compass is the Texas Hospital Association’s data sharing program. Participating members submit discharge data to THA each quarter. After members correct errors in the data, THA transfers all records to THCIC to meet the requirements of the state mandate. Participants in the Compass program are given access to a data visualization tool and claims datasets to use for strategic planning and business development research.
Who is Stratasan? | Stratasan is the data collection and data analytics vendor for the THA Compass data program.

What type of data is submitted? | Discharge data in the form of an 837 electronic claim file. The Compass program uses the same file spec requirements as THCIC. Those requirements can be found here: www.dshs.texas.gov/thcic/ |
What are the steps in the data submission process? | 1) Extract claims data from EMR 2) Upload data in the Star portal for your facility within the appropriate submission quarter reporting period. 3) Download and review data quality and error reports to review for error corrections and data accuracy. 4) Make corrections in the Star portal. Fatal error percentage must be below 3% for the Compass program. Note: THCIC requires all fatal errors to be corrected. 5) Approve data in the Star portal. After all corrections have been applied, approve your data to signal it is ready to be sent to THCIC. Note: all facilities must also complete the required step of certifying with THCIC. |
